St. Patrick’s School was established in 1925 and staffed by five sisters of Mercy and two lay teachers. The Parish enjoyed the presence of the Sisters until the end of 1991. They were withdrawn from the School in December 1989.

The Sisters provided facilities at the Convent for boarders and from time to time cared for up to 30 children. When the Sisters were withdrawn from the School two remained to continue the function of the boarding facility, which had come under the administration of a Parish based board. When the numbers dwindled to four in 1991, the decision was made not to continue, and the Sisters left the parish at the end of that year. The convent building was sold for removal in 1994.

In 1964 a new brick two-storied building was opened for secondary students to Year 10. When this closed in June 1973, these amenities became available for the use of the primary school students. In 1983 the original building was raised and refurbished. It now houses the library, music/assembly room and learning assistance area. It also provides a shaded lunch area.

Since January 1990 the school has been operated under an all lay staff. Now with 32 students from Prep to Year 6, staff and students work together in spacious surroundings and large classrooms. Current staff comprises Principal and 3 full-time teachers. The teachers work together to utilise their time and talents to best suit the students in their care. Two teacher aides support classroom curriculum. Classes are arranged as multi-age groupings of approximately 11 students.

Our Priest Director, Fr Jamie Collins is also an important and significant member of our school community. Along with the pastoral care of teachers and students, he supervises the preparation of the children for the Sacraments. The children attend mass the first Tuesday of every month

The Pre-school class was introduced in 1995 and an Early Childhood Centre incorporating Pre-school to Year 2 was established. The Pre-school opened as a stand-alone unit in 2001. Our final Pre-school class was conducted in 2006 as the Prep Year was introduced to the school in 2007.

November 2002 saw the opening of four refurbished classrooms on the top storey of the newer building. The classrooms provide welcoming, warm and spacious learning environments for the students. Further refurbishments of the ground floor included a Prep room, new office and tuckshop facilities.

In 2009 schools throughout Australia received two buckets of funding as part of the Government’s Economic Stimulus package. They included the BER project for major capital works and the NSP program for school maintenance. The funding was dependent upon the school’s enrolment.
